Frank Subscribe    |  What is RSS News Release Date:  November 9, 2023 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park hosted 299,127 recreation visits in October 2023. This is a 26% increase from October 2022 (236,567 recreational visits). It is also a 75% increase from October 2019* (171,339 recreational visits) when several short-term, weather-related road closures likely impacted visitation.   So far in 2023, the park has hosted 4,446,509 recreation visits, up 37% from 2022 (3,241,761 recreation visits), and up 12% from 2019 (3,979,154 recreation visits). This is a 48% increase from September 2022 (567,587 recreational visits) and a 21% increase from September 2019* (693,118 recreational visits).   So far in 2023, the park has hosted 4,161,602 recreation visits, up 38% from 2022 (3,005,194 recreation visits), and up 9% from 2019 (3,807,815 recreation visits). This is a 45% increase from August 2022 (582,211 recreational visits) and a 3% increase from August 2019* (820,006 recreational visits). So far in 2023, the park has hosted 3,313,244 recreation visits, up 36% from 2022 (2,437,607 recreation visits), and up 6% from 2019 (3,114,697 recreation visits). Frank MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY –  Yellowstone National Park hosted 969,692 recreation visits in July 2023. This is a 63% increase from July 2022 (596,562 recreational visits) and a 4% increase from July 2019* (936,062 recreation visits).   So far in 2023, the park has hosted 2,463,202 recreation visits, up 33% from 2022 (1,855,396 recreation visits), and up 7% from 2019 (2,294,691 recreation visits). The list below shows the year-to-date trend for recreation visits over the last several years (through July):    2023 – 2,463,202 2022 – 1,855,396  (The park was closed June 13 through June 21. Three entrances opened June 22. The Northeast Entrance opened Oct. 15 and the North Entrance opened Oct. 30.) 2021 – 2,668,765 2020 – 1,674,699  (The park was closed March 24 through May 17. This is a 61% increase from June 2022, the month of the  historic flood  (525,363 recreational visits), and an 8% increase from June 2019* (781,853 recreation visits). So far in 2023, the park has hosted 1,493,510 recreation visits, up 19% from 2022 (1,258,834 recreation visits), and up 10% from 2019 (1,358,629 recreation visits).   The list below shows the year-to-date trend for recreation visits over the last several years (through June):    2023 – 1,493,510 2022 – 1,258,834  (The park was closed June 13 through June 21.   NEWS RELEASE Yellowstone visitation statistics for May 2023         Visitors watching wildlife from a safe distance          NPS / Jacob W. Frank MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – The park hosted 454,929 recreation visits in May 2023. This is a 13% decrease from May 2022 (523,680 recreation visits), which was Yellowstone National Park’s busiest May on record. This May’s visitation showed a 5% increase from May 2019* (434,385 recreation visits). So far in 2023, the park has hosted 645,646 recreation visits, down 12% from 2022 (733,471), and up 12% from 2019 (576,776 recreation visits). The list below shows the year-to-date trend for recreation visits over the last several years (through May): 2023 – 645,646 2022 – 733,471 2021 – 649,153 2020 – 145,849  (The park was closed May 1 through May 17. Two entrances opened May 18 and the remaining three opened June 1.) 2019 – 576,776 2018 – 570,824 Summer is Yellowstone’s busiest season and millions of people visit the park in June, July and August.

Yellowstone visitation statistics for October 2022 - NPS

  Yellowstone visitation statistics for October 2022 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park hosted 232,117 recreation visits in October 2022. This is a 27% decrease from October 2021 (316,662 recreational visits), and a 36% increase from October 2019 (171,339) which was the last year before COVID. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. On July 2, entry restrictions on the East, South and West entrances were removed. The North (Gardiner, Montana) and Northeast (Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana) entrances remained closed to visitor vehicle traffic through September. The Northeast Entrance reopened to regular visitor traffic on Oct. 15 and the North Entrance reopened on Oct. 30. Visitors traveling to the park this winter should  stay informed  about what's open and closed. So fa

This is a 36% decrease from September 2021 (882,078 recreational visits), the most-visited September on record, and an 18% decrease from September 2019 (693,118) which was the last year before COVID. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. On July 2, entry restrictions on the East, South and West entrances were removed. Frank MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park hosted 582,211 recreation visits in August 2022. This is a 37% decrease from August 2021 (921,844 recreational visits), the most-visited August on record, and a 29% decrease from August 2019 (820,006), the last year pre-COVID. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. On July 2, entry restrictions on the East, South and West entrances were removed. The North (Gardiner, Montana) and Northeast (Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana) entrances remain closed to visitor vehicles. As the park recovers from the June flood, it's critical that visitors traveling to the park in the
