While closures can occur anywhere in the park, accumulations of snow are most likely to happen on the high mountain passes. In anticipation of hazardous driving conditions, the following roads will close on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.: Tower Junction to Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass) West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass). NPS photo News Release Date: October 4, 2022 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY - Yellowstone National Park in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration has determined that the Old Gardiner Road (a limited-access road between Gardiner, Montana and Mammoth Hot Springs) will open to regular traffic no later than Nov. 1, 2022. The two-lane project will be extended up to two weeks to ensure over 5,000 feet of guardrail are properly installed for traffic safety. Frank UPDATE: Aug. 3, 2022 Yellowstone National Park timelines for North Entrance and Northeast Entrance roads MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park continues to make major progress with short- and long-term efforts to reconnect the park to Gardiner and Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana. In mid-June, Yellowstone experienced a 500-year flood event that caused severe damage to roads, water and wastewater systems, power lines and other critical park infrastructure. The most significant damage severed access to the park via the North Entrance and Northeast Entrance roads. NEWS RELEASE Beartooth Highway (US-212) partially reopened with nighttime closures Stay informed about road status and weather conditions Views of Pilot and Index Peaks along the Beartooth Highway NPS / Jacob W. Frank After repairing damage caused by the recent record-breaking flood event, the Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, partially reopened June 28. This partial reopening includes 23 miles of the Beartooth Highway beginning at the US-212/WY-296 junction to the Beartooth Ski Hill parking lot. Travelers will need to turn around at the ski hill parking lot due to flood damage on the remainder of the highway. Frank News Release Date: May 26, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 Weather-permitting, the Beartooth Highway (US-212) between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, will open May 28, 2021, at 8 a.m. Conditions can change quickly, especially during spring and fall, and roads can temporarily close due to poor driving conditions. Plan to have alternate routes for travel should the highway close. Check the Montana and Wyoming departments of transportation websites for road updates and status throughout the summer.
