Adams, 307-739-3431 MOOSE, Wyo.  – Effective January 10, 2024, Grand Teton National Park will change the backcountry camping permit fee to $20, plus a $7 per person, per night fee to camp overnight in the backcountry. Grand Teton began charging for backcountry permits in 2014 and last modified the fees in 2018.  Approximately 30% of backcountry camping permits will be available on  Recreation.gov  for advanced reservations beginning January 10, 2024, at 8 a.m. MST for the 2024 camping season which runs May 1 through October 31. Starting May 1, 2024, the remaining 70% of backcountry camping permits will be available one day before the start of the trip as “walk-up” permits and must be obtained in-person at the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center, Colter Bay Visitor Center or Jenny La

It’s important to view wildlife safely, responsibly and ethically. Treat all wildlife with caution and respect as they are wild, unpredictable and can be dangerous. The safety of visitors and wildlife depends on everyone playing a critical role in being a steward for wildlife by giving them the space they need to thrive – their lives depend on it.   Elk reduction program begins Saturday, November 5 MOOSE, WY — An elk reduction program begins Saturday, November 5, in Grand Teton National Park. The park’s enabling legislation of 1950 authorizes Grand Teton National Park to jointly administer an elk reduction program with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department when necessary for the proper management and conservation of the Jackson Elk Herd.   Respective federal and state resource managers have reviewed available data and concluded that the 2022 program is necessary. The need for the program is determined annually and is based on the status of the Jackson Elk Herd, including estimated herd size and composition and the number of elk on supplemental feed on the National Elk Refuge. A total of 475 permits are authorized for the 2022 program. Bonney MOOSE, WY  — Five planned temporary closures will take place after Labor Day in Grand Teton National Park as construction and road improvements projects get underway. Tentative schedules and locations of projects are: Moose-Wilson Road As previously planned, the southern portion of the Moose-Wilson Road from Granite Canyon Entrance to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve will close to all access the day after Labor Day, September 6. This section of road will reopen to winter activity in December, through March 2023. The closure is needed because the road is too narrow to safely allow construction equipment and visitor traffic. The northern section of the road will remain open to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Death Canyon Trailhead from the north, via Moose, WY. Adams, 307-739-3431 MOOSE, WY— Due to current,  HIGH  COVID-19 community level in Teton County, Department of Interior policy requires that masks are required for everyone in all park buildings in Grand Teton National Park, regardless of vaccination status. Park buildings include, but are not limited to visitor centers, administrative offices, lodges, gift shops, and restaurants in the Grand Teton. Current Department of Interior policy requiring masks are based on the CDC’s identified  COVID-19 community level . For more information on COVID-19 in the local park area, please see  Teton County Health Department . HIGH : masks are required for everyone indoors in a federal building in Grand Teton National Park. MEDIUM  and  LOW : masks are optional indoors. NEWS RELEASE Grand Teton National Park restoring native sagebrush habitat NPS Photo/C. Adams MOOSE, WY— Grand Teton National Park staff will initiate habitat restoration projects in the southern part of the park this summer as part of a multi-phase restoration effort to replace approximately 4,500 acres of former non-native grass fields with native sagebrush steppe habitat. A healthy sagebrush ecosystem in Grand Teton is vital for the diversity and abundance of native plants and wildlife species like elk, bison, moose, pronghorn, and sage grouse that rely on them. Grand Teton National Park Foundation has successfully raised funds for this project from dozens of individual donors, and garnered ongoing support from Teton Conservation District, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and Alpyn Beauty.   Roof replacement and concrete restoration to take place at Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park this summer Multi-million dollar project will revitalize historic structure         Courtesy National Park Service, Grand Teton National Park, GRTE-00430, Historic Photograph Collection MOOSE, WY— The historic Jackson Lake Lodge, located within Grand Teton National Park, will undergo a roof replacement, exterior concrete restoration and re-staining to the building façade this summer to restore the character-defining architecture and design of the National Historic Landmark (NHL). Visitors will see construction and changes in the building’s appearance throughout the season. Grand Teton Lodge Company operates Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park through a concessions contract.
