Frank Weather-permitting, the Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, will open Friday, May 26 at 8 a.m. Watch for quickly changing weather, including winter weather conditions with heavy snow and hazardous driving conditions. Temporary road closures due to winter weather can occur any time on the highway given its high elevation. Plan to have alternate routes for travel should the highway close. Check the  Montana  and  Wyoming  departments of transportation websites for road updates and status throughout the summer. WYDOT Offers To Plow Stretch Of Critical Yellowstone Road So Citizens Aren’t Stranded  

  NEWS RELEASE Beartooth Highway (US-212) partially reopened with nighttime closures Stay informed about road status and weather conditions              Views of Pilot and Index Peaks along the Beartooth Highway         NPS / Jacob W. Frank After repairing damage caused by the recent record-breaking flood event, the Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana,  partially reopened June 28.   This partial reopening includes 23 miles of the Beartooth Highway beginning at the US-212/WY-296 junction to the Beartooth Ski Hill parking lot. Travelers will need to turn around at the ski hill parking lot due to flood damage on the remainder of the highway. The towns of Cooke City, Montana, and Silver Gate, Montana, remain open for visitor travel. Temporary road closures due to winter weather can occur any time on the highway given its high elevation.   NEWS RELEASE Beartooth Highway (US-212) opened  [June 9] with nighttime closures; Stay informed about road status and weather conditions           Plowing Beartooth Highway 2021           NPS / Jacob W. Frank The Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana,  opened today, June 9 . Over the last several days, crews cleared a substantial amount of snow from the highway. Temporary road closures due to winter weather can occur any time on the highway given its high elevation. Stay informed about weather conditions. Plan ahead . Nighttime closures will begin today: Closures will be in effect from 7.p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday. There will be no closures Friday through Sunday. This is a hard closure and traffic will not be allowed to pass through during these times. The closure is from Pilot Index Overlook east to Beartooth Lake Campground. There will be barricades at the traffic lights on each end.

Three Major NW Wyoming Mountain Roads Opening This Friday

Frank News Release Date: October 6, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 The Beartooth Highway (US-212) between the Long Lake barricade, near the Top of the World store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line will close for the season on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 8 a.m. Ice and snow is in the forecast and hazardous driving conditions are expected.   This section of the Beartooth Highway was scheduled to close on October 12 at 8 a.m, Travel east of Cooke City, Montana ( Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance ), to Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is possible until early November.
