Frank News Release Date:  December 13, 2023 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park’s winter season begins Friday, Dec. 15. Annually from mid-December until mid-March, visitors can travel most of the park’s roads from the West, South, East and North entrances by approved  commercially guided snowmobiles and snowcoaches  and via the  non-commercially guided snowmobile access program . Currently, there is limited snowfall on roads in the eastern, western and northern parts of the park. This means that visitors will be able to travel in the park, however, the type of transportation used on park roads by commercially guided snowmobile or snowcoach tour companies will depend on road conditions. The new system is a direct response to public requests for a reservation system at park campgrounds and prompted a collaborative effort between the National Park Service (NPS) and  Recreation.gov .   New Reservation Campgrounds 2022 Season Dates Details Indian Creek June 10-Sept.11 100% reservations (70 sites) Lewis Lake June 15-Oct.14 100% reservations (84 sites) Starting in 2022, the campground will close Oct.15 Pebble Creek June 15-Sept.25 100% reservations (remaining 11 sites that were first-come, first-served in 2021)   Reservations will go live on  Recreat

The new system is a direct response to public requests for an online backcountry permit reservation system and prompted a collaborative effort between the National Park Service (NPS) and  Recreation.gov . Moving to an online system allows backcountry users to check availability in real time and receive instant confirmation when reserving a trip. The ability to make advance reservations will enable visitors to plan their trips ahead of time and provide assurance they will have a permit for their chosen itinerary upon arrival. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway will now be able to reserve campsites at all park campgrounds in a “one-stop-shop” on Recreation.gov as all remaining campgrounds in the park transition to the website for the 2022 summer season. The Colter Bay RV Park and Tent Village, as well as Headwaters Campground and RV Park, which were previously reservable through Grand Teton Lodge Company, are moving to Recreation.gov .
