National Park Service investigated the attack site, discovered a carcass near the trail and confirmed grizzly tracks. News Release Solo hiker injured by bear on Beaver Ponds Trail A grizzly bear walks above the Gardner River near the Boiling River parking area NPS / Jacob W. Frank News Release Date: May 28, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 On the morning of Friday, May 28, 2021, a male, age 39, sustained injuries from a bear while hiking on the Beaver Ponds Trail at Mammoth Hot Springs. The incident occurred approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead that originates from the Old Gardiner Road. The male was hiking alone when he encountered what he believed to be two grizzly bears. One bear made contact with the hiker and he sustained significant injuries to his lower extremities but was able to hike out on his own. He was transported to Livingston Hospital by park ambulance. The Beaver Ponds Trail is closed until further notice. Bear management staff are sweeping the trail to ensure no other hikers are on the trail. There are no further detail...

Adams, 307.739.3431 MOOSE, WY—Seasonally operated facilities begin opening for summer operations in Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Visitors to the park are encouraged to plan ahead and recreate responsibly. The Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center will open for the season on Saturday, May 1. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Teton Park Road and Moose-Wilson Road open to motor vehicles on May 1. Adams, 307.739.3431 MOOSE, WY—Grand Teton National Park is implementing a temporary area closure for human and wildlife safety. A portion of the east-facing slope of 25 Short is closed until further notice to prevent potential conflict between a denning grizzly bear and skiers. The east-facing slope below the skier summit and the true summit of Peak 9975, known as 25 Short, is closed. Direct access across the summit ridgeline to Turkey Chute, Chute the Moon and other routes to Avalanche Canyon is open. This area is routinely accessed from the Taggart Lake Trailhead.
