NEWS RELEASE Beartooth Highway (US-212) opened [June 9] with nighttime closures; Stay informed about road status and weather conditions Plowing Beartooth Highway 2021 NPS / Jacob W. Frank The Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, opened today, June 9 . Over the last several days, crews cleared a substantial amount of snow from the highway. Temporary road closures due to winter weather can occur any time on the highway given its high elevation. Stay informed about weather conditions. Plan ahead . Nighttime closures will begin today: Closures will be in effect from 7.p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday. There will be no closures Friday through Sunday. This is a hard closure and traffic will not be allowed to pass through during these times. News Release Section of Beartooth Highway to close Thursday, October 7; Inclement weather expected Fall in the Beartooth Mountains NPS / Jacob W. Frank News Release Date: October 6, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 The Beartooth Highway (US-212) between the Long Lake barricade, near the Top of the World store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line will close for the season on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 8 a.m. Ice and snow is in the forecast and hazardous driving conditions are expected. This section of the Beartooth Highway was scheduled to close on October 12 at 8 a.m, Travel east of Cooke City, Montana ( Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance ), to Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is possible until early November. For road status, visit MT DOT and WY DOT.

Frank News Release Date: May 26, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 Weather-permitting, the Beartooth Highway (US-212) between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, will open May 28, 2021, at 8 a.m. Conditions can change quickly, especially during spring and fall, and roads can temporarily close due to poor driving conditions. Plan to have alternate routes for travel should the highway close. Check the Montana and Wyoming departments of transportation websites for road updates and status throughout the summer.
