The park annually closes roads at this time of year to prepare them for the  winter season  and  snowmobile and snowcoach  travel, which will begin Dec. 15. The last day for visitors to drive most park roads will be Tuesday, Oct. 31.   The only roads open year-round are between the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana (via Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley). Frank News Release Date:  May 30, 2023 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 A short section of Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Entrance Road in Lamar Canyon (between Tower Junction and Lamar Valley) will temporarily close from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 5, 7, 8, 12, 14 and 15. This segment of road will close so that construction crews can conduct safe blasting operations.   During the  2022 historic flood , high water eroded the slope below this section of road rendering it not safe for use. To repair the damage, crews cut a temporary one-lane road into the hillside. Crews will blast further into the hillside this month to create a new two-lane road, which will be more resilient and able to withstand the effects of erosion and future flooding. NEWS RELEASE Winter weather and hazardous driving conditions expected in Yellowstone National Park; Anticipate temporary road closures and driving delays; Stay informed about road status and weather conditions           NPS / Josh Spice News Release Date:  October 20, 2022 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 Last updated: October 20, 2022 Due to expected winter weather and hazardous driving conditions in Yellowstone National Park over the next few days, visitors should anticipate temporary road closures and driving delays.   While closures can occur anywhere in the park, accumulations of snow are most likely to happen on the high mountain passes. In anticipation of hazardous driving conditions, the following roads will close on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.:  Tower Junction to Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass)  West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass).   NEWS RELEASE Planned closures begin after Labor Day        NPS Photo/J. Bonney MOOSE, WY  — Five planned temporary closures will take place after Labor Day in Grand Teton National Park as construction and road improvements projects get underway. Tentative schedules and locations of projects are: Moose-Wilson Road As previously planned, the southern portion of the Moose-Wilson Road from Granite Canyon Entrance to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve will close to all access the day after Labor Day, September 6. This section of road will reopen to winter activity in December, through March 2023. The closure is needed because the road is too narrow to safely allow construction equipment and visitor traffic. The northern section of the road will remain open to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Death Canyon Trailhead from the north, via Moose, WY. Grand Teton is working in partnership with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Teton Village Association to provide access to trails origin

Fuel truck rolls over on Hwy 191 in Yellowstone National Park In the early morning hours of [Friday] Aug.19, a fuel tanker truck lost control and rolled over near mile marker 16 on U.S. Hwy 191, a  section of highway that runs through the western portion of Yellowstone National Park . An estimated 4,800 gallons of unleaded fuel spilled as a result, and it is unknown if any entered nearby Grayling Creek. Currently, the southbound lane of the highway is blocked but is passable in both directions with traffic control in place. Motorists should anticipate delays. National Park Service crews responded immediately. Mitigation cleanup efforts are ongoing. There were no injuries. This incident remains under investigation and the park has no additional information to release. Yellowstone thanks those who responded to the scene, including Hebgen Basin Fire and EMS units, cleanup and mitigation contractors and NPS staff. Stay informed!   Yellowstone National Park flood recovery: Change to access from the Northeast Entrance into the park It’s critical that visitors traveling to the park stay informed about what’s open and closed. MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Major construction repairs will begin substantially on Tuesday, Aug. 2. Contractors will be working on all damaged sections of the park’s Northeast Entrance Road near Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana. This requires alterations to the closures on the road. The road had previously been open to bicyclists and pedestrian traffic to Barronette Meadow. Due to significant work beginning on the road this week, the road will be closed near the Warm Creek Trailhead and picnic area. This will still afford access to visitors and residents but will provide room for construction work to begin, including staging of equipment and materials needed to make repairs. It is estimated that repairs will be completed by Oct. 15, facilitating traffic between the park and Cooke City/Silver Gat
