Roads routinely open this time of year and remain open until Nov.1, when they close in preparation for the winter season. On Saturday, April 22, entrance fees will be waived in celebration of National Park Week . Flood Recovery Updates: Yellowstone's North Entrance and road to Mammoth Hot Springs opened Oct. 30 Road between North Entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs (Old Gardiner Road) UPDATE: Oct. 30, 2022 Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance and road to Mammoth Hot Springs opens TODAY, Oct. 30 Yellowstone to waive all entrance fees Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Effective immediately, Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and road between the North Entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs (Old Gardiner Road) is open to regular visitor traffic. Contractors completed striping yesterday, Oct. 29. The public should keep the following details in mind when driving the road: Yellowstone reminds the public of everyone’s responsibility to use the road carefully to avoid accidents. Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, to close Aug.16-17 to foot and bicycle traffic News Release Date: August 15, 2022 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 A 1-mile stretch of road currently open only to foot and bicycle traffic at Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, will close Aug.16-17 as crews remove a piece of heavy equipment currently in Gardner Canyon. This closure will include a quarter mile on either side of the roadway and a section of the Gardner River. Anglers who want to fish the Gardner River may do so from the confluence with the Yellowstone River to the section of the Gardner River located directly east of the North Entrance station. On Aug.18, access will be available again by bicycle (on paved roadways) and foot through the North Entrance to fish and hike in areas not identified as closed. Frank UPDATE: Aug. 3, 2022 Yellowstone National Park timelines for North Entrance and Northeast Entrance roads MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park continues to make major progress with short- and long-term efforts to reconnect the park to Gardiner and Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana. In mid-June, Yellowstone experienced a 500-year flood event that caused severe damage to roads, water and wastewater systems, power lines and other critical park infrastructure. The most significant damage severed access to the park via the North Entrance and Northeast Entrance roads. NEWS RELEASE April 15 select road opening in Yellowstone National Park: ANTICIPATE DELAYS; Stay informed about road status Plowing operations 3.28.17 NPS / Jacob W. Frank Due to extremely heavy snow received this week in Yellowstone National Park, the park’s efforts to open interior roads by April 15 has been delayed. Crews are working to clear nearly a foot of snow and remove large drifts from storms on Tuesday, April 12. Although progress has been made, the normal opening schedule will be altered. The park will attempt to open the following road segments tomorrow as scheduled: West Entrance to Old Faithful Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris However, more snow is forecasted in the park tonight with the potential for freezing rain over the weekend. Other road segments will open as conditions allow. The road between the North Entrance, Mammoth Hot Springs and Northeast Entrance is open year-round. Frank News Release Date: November 1, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – This weekend, November 6-7, provides the last chance for visitors to drive to many iconic locations in Yellowstone. The West, South and East entrances and all roads, with one exception, will close to vehicle travel at 12:01 a.m. Monday, November 8. The park annually closes roads in early November to prepare them for the winter season and snowmobile and snowcoach travel, which will begin Wednesday, December 15. The one exception is the road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through Mammoth Hot Springs to the Northeast Entrance and communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana.
