  NEWS RELEASE Major windstorm and rain event in Yellowstone National Park at Lake Village Windstorm and rain at Lake Village on July 4, 2023: fallen trees at Lake Hotel NPS / Cam Sholly MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY - On Monday, July 3 in the early evening, a major windstorm and rain event impacted the southern portion of Yellowstone National Park, primarily in the Lake Village area. No fatalities nor severe injuries have been reported. Additionally, there have been no substantial disruptions to visitor services. “Monday night’s storm event hit the Lake area very hard,” said Superintendent Cam Sholly. “The National Park Service team and our partners quickly stabilized the situation and got recovery efforts started immediately.” The following information includes details about how the storm impacted the Lake Village area and the ongoing cleanup efforts. Funded by the  Great American Outdoors Act  (GAOA), this project will preserve year-round public access to and from the park’s Northeast Entrance and communities of Silver Gate and Cooke City, Montana. "As a vital piece of the only road corridor in the park that is plowed for winter use, the Yellowstone River Bridge provides visitors and communities with all-season opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the world's first national park," said National Park Service Director

  NEWS RELEASE Flood Recovery Updates: Northeast Entrance Road in Yellowstone National Park to open Oct. 15 Northeast Entrance Road repair progress on Oct. 13, 2022. --  NPS / Cam Sholly UPDATE: Oct. 13, 2022 Northeast Entrance Road in Yellowstone National Park to open Oct. 15 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park’s  Northeast Entrance Road  (Tower Junction to the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana) will open to regular visitor vehicle traffic Saturday, Oct.15 at 8 a.m. Visitors should keep the following details in mind when driving the road: All flood damaged sections on the Northeast Entrance Road will be paved by Oct.15, except for the section of road near the popular trailhead to Trout Lake, which will be paved in the upcoming 10 days. Traffic will be permitted on this segment of road while repairs continue. Anticipate traffic control in the area and short delays to facilitate one-way traffic through this section. All events are free to the public. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Gardiner Community Cleanup Meet at Arch Park to clean up the town. Meet at Dino Lube, the rodeo grounds or the airport to clean up the highway.
