  NEWS RELEASE New remote 5-acre wildfire in northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park                            The Big Horn Fire, a remote wildfire located in steep, rocky terrain in the                           northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park                           NPS/Jess Page On the afternoon of Sept. 27, individuals in Tom Miner Basin, Montana (an area located just north of Yellowstone National Park’s northwest boundary), reported seeing smoke in Yellowstone. The park’s helicopter crew flew the area that evening and spotted a new fire, likely ignited by lightning several days prior. Estimated at 5 acres, the Big Horn Fire is in very steep, rugged and rocky terrain in the remote northwest corner of the park. See  photos . Fire crews will monitor the wildfire from Tom Miner Basin and the air since the potential for it to leave the park is very low.   NEWS RELEASE Beartooth Highway (US-212) opened  [June 9] with nighttime closures; Stay informed about road status and weather conditions           Plowing Beartooth Highway 2021           NPS / Jacob W. Frank The Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the park’s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana,  opened today, June 9 . Over the last several days, crews cleared a substantial amount of snow from the highway. Temporary road closures due to winter weather can occur any time on the highway given its high elevation. Stay informed about weather conditions. Plan ahead . Nighttime closures will begin today: Closures will be in effect from 7.p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday. There will be no closures Friday through Sunday. This is a hard closure and traffic will not be allowed to pass through during these times. The closure is from Pilot Index Overlook east to Beartooth Lake Campground. There will be barricades at the traffic lights on each end.

Frank MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – On Saturday, April 23, community organizations will observe Earth Day in Gardiner, Montana. All events are free to the public. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Gardiner Community Cleanup Meet at Arch Park to clean up the town. Meet at Dino Lube, the rodeo grounds or the airport to clean up the highway. Please bring your own work gloves. 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy lunch and listen to speakers at Arch Park, including remarks from Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Cam Sholly. All Day Get free compost at the Heritage and Research Center. Bring a shovel and container. Drop off your e-waste, batteries and bulbs at the Yellowstone Forever box at Arch Park. Frank News Release Date: October 6, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 The Beartooth Highway (US-212) between the Long Lake barricade, near the Top of the World store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line will close for the season on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 8 a.m. Ice and snow is in the forecast and hazardous driving conditions are expected.   This section of the Beartooth Highway was scheduled to close on October 12 at 8 a.m, Travel east of Cooke City, Montana ( Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance ), to Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is possible until early November. For road status, visit MT DOT and WY DOT.

The Junction Butte Pack transcends Yellowstone’s northern range and is the most viewed wolf pack in the world. Multiple recent overflights conducted by the park confirmed the pack size has been reduced from 27 to 24 animals, losing two female pups and one female yearling.
