Goals for the new road include providing year-round access between Gardiner, Montana, and Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana, natural hazard resiliency and the protection of natural and cultural resources.   NEWS RELEASE Yellowstone visitation statistics for June 2023 News Release Date:  July 18, 2023 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 The park hosted 847,864 recreation visits in June 2023. This is a 61% increase from June 2022, the month of the  historic flood  (525,363 recreational visits), and an 8% increase from June 2019* (781,853 recreation visits). So far in 2023, the park has hosted 1,493,510 recreation visits, up 19% from 2022 (1,258,834 recreation visits), and up 10% from 2019 (1,358,629 recreation visits).   The list below shows the year-to-date trend for recreation visits over the last several years (through June):    2023 – 1,493,510 2022 – 1,258,834  (The park was closed June 13 through June 21. Three entrances opened June 22.) 2021 – 1,587,998 2020 –  719,054  (The park was closed May 1 through May 17.   NEWS RELEASE Yellowstone National Park’s Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel to open July 1, 2023        Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel Exterior        Courtesy Xanterra Travel Collection MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park’s Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins will open July 1, 2023. The hotel closed immediately after the  historic 2022 flood  because of damage to the area’s wastewater system. The hotel gift shop with sandwiches, snacks and beverages, and lobby are currently open. The Terrace Grill with sandwiches, salads, ice cream and beverages, is currently open for lunch and dinner and will add breakfast hours beginning July 2. The hotel dining room will open at a later date. Visit  operating hours and services  for updates. All tours departing from the Mammoth Hotel will begin July 1. Frank News Release Date:  April 12, 2023 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park’s Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel spring 2023 opening has been delayed until the wastewater treatment system in the area is completed and operational. Due to the heavy winter and difficult construction conditions, the new system will not be operational by April 28 as originally planned, the scheduled Mammoth Hotel opening date. The park is working closely with contractors to complete the project as quickly as possible.   The  hotel closed  immediately after the 2022  historic June flood  because of damage to the area’s wastewater system.   Yellowstone visitation statistics for October 2022 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park hosted 232,117 recreation visits in October 2022. This is a 27% decrease from October 2021 (316,662 recreational visits), and a 36% increase from October 2019 (171,339) which was the last year before COVID. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. On July 2, entry restrictions on the East, South and West entrances were removed. The North (Gardiner, Montana) and Northeast (Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana) entrances remained closed to visitor vehicle traffic through September. The Northeast Entrance reopened to regular visitor traffic on Oct. 15 and the North Entrance reopened on Oct. 30. The  hotel closed  immediately after the  historic June flood  because of damage to the area’s wastewater system. The hotel will be closed to overnight guests and food services will not be provided.  The hotel gift shop, coffee and beverage service, lobby and ski shop will be open.   Flood Recovery Updates: Yellowstone's North Entrance and road to Mammoth Hot Springs opened Oct. 30       Road between North Entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs (Old Gardiner Road) UPDATE: Oct. 30, 2022 Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance and road to Mammoth Hot Springs opens TODAY, Oct. 30 Yellowstone to waive all entrance fees Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Effective immediately, Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and road between the North Entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs (Old Gardiner Road) is open to regular visitor traffic. Contractors completed striping yesterday, Oct. 29. The public should keep the following details in mind when driving the road: Yellowstone reminds the public of everyone’s responsibility to use the road carefully to avoid accidents. Steep grades and sharp curves exist. Drive slowly and with caution. Speed limits range between 15-25 mph. There are no length or weight restrictions on the road (see exceptions

This is a 36% decrease from September 2021 (882,078 recreational visits), the most-visited September on record, and an 18% decrease from September 2019 (693,118) which was the last year before COVID. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours.
