Frank News Release Date: May 7, 2021 Contact: Morgan Warthin , 307-344-2015 Elk calving season will begin soon in Yellowstone National Park. Cow elk are much more aggressive towards people during the calving season and may charge or kick. Stay alert. Look around corners before exiting buildings or walking around blind spots: cow elk may bed their calves near buildings and cars. Keep at least 25 yards from elk at all times. If an elk charges you, find shelter in your vehicle or behind a tall, sturdy barrier as quickly as possible. You are responsible for your own safety. Visit Elk for more information.

A significant snowpack still exists in the Sylvan Pass area . Park rangers will monitor avalanche conditions. Temporary road closures may occur. Conditions in Yellowstone can change quickly, especially during spring and fall, and roads can temporarily close due to poor driving conditions. Visitors to the park are encouraged to plan ahead and recreate responsibly. The Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center will open for the season on Saturday, May 1. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Teton Park Road and Moose-Wilson Road open to motor vehicles on May 1.
