Yellowstone visitation statistics for June 2022; Commemorate 150 Years of Yellowstone News Release Date: July 25, 2022 Contact: Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – The park hosted 536,601 recreation visits in June 2022. This is a 43% decrease from June 2021 (938,845 recreation visits), which was the most-visited June on record. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to historic flooding . All park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. Portions of the park remained closed through the remainder of June, including the North and Northeast entrances. As the park recovers, it's critical that visitors traveling to the park in the coming weeks stay informed about what's open and closed. HIGH fire danger in Yellowstone The parkwide fire danger level for Yellowstone is now HIGH. Currently, there are no active wildland fires in the park. Currently, there are no fire restrictions in place or planned in the park. Campfires are only permitted within established fire rings in campgrounds and some backcountry campsites. Campfires must always be attended and cold to the touch before abandoning. Soak, stir, feel, repeat. The Greater Yellowstone area is a fire-adapted ecosystem . Fire plays an important role in maintaining the health of this area’s wildlife habitat and vegetation. Stay informed about current fire activity in Yellowstone. Frank Incident details A 71-year-old woman from West Chester, Pennsylvania, was gored by a bull bison near Storm Point at Yellowstone Lake on Wednesday, June 29. The woman and her daughter inadvertently approached the bison as they were returning to their vehicle at the trailhead, causing the bull bison to charge. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the encounter and was transported by ambulance to West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyoming. This incident remains under investigation, and there is no additional information to share. This is the third reported bison and visitor incident in 2022.
