  Yellowstone visitation statistics for July 2022 News Release Date:  August 16, 2022 Contact:   Morgan Warthin , (307) 344-2015 MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Yellowstone National Park hosted 596,562 recreation visits in July 2022. This is a 45% decrease from July 2021 (1,080,767 recreational visits), the most-visited July on record, and a 36% decrease from July 2019 (936,062), the last pre-Covid year. On June 13, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park closed due to  historic flooding . Park visitors were evacuated over the next 24 hours. On June 22, the East, South and West entrances to the park reopened on a limited entry basis. On July 2, entry restrictions on the East, South and West entrances were removed. The North (Gardiner, Montana) and Northeast (Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana) entrances remain closed to visitor vehicles. Frank MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Parkwide vehicle entries over the Memorial Day weekend in 2022 showed a 34% decrease over the same weekend in 2021.   Visitation statistics (*vehicle entries) per day for May 27-30, 2022, compared to May 28-31, 2021, are listed below. Bonney MOOSE, WY— Grand Teton National Park hosted 3,885,230 recreation visits in 2021, the highest number of recreation visits for one year in the park’s history. Previously, 2018 had the record for the most recreation visits in a year with 3,491,151. Recreation visits in 2021 exceed the 2018 record by 11% and surpassed the 2018 record in September 2021. In 2021, visitation for May, June, July, August, and September were the busiest on record. July was also the most-visited month on record in Yellowstone’s history and the first time visitation exceeded 1 million visits in a single month. The park hosted an estimated 61,674 recreation visits in November 2021. This is a 28% increase from November 2019 and an 8% increase from November 2020. The park has hosted over 3.8 million recreation visits so far this year and surpassed the busiest full year on record back in September. From January to November 2021, there was a 9% increase in recreation visits compared to the entire year of 2018, which previously hosted the park’s highest amount of visitation on record with 3,491,151 recreation visits. The park hosted an estimated 245,834 recreation visits in October 2021. This is a 32% increase from October 2019 and a 30% decrease from October 2020. From January to October 2021, there was a 7% increase in recreation visits compared to the entire year of 2018, which previously hosted the park’s highest amount of recreation visits on record. Recreation visits this October were up 85% from October 2019 (171,339 visits). Several short-term, weather-related road closures likely impacted visitation in 2019. Adams, 307.739.3431 MOOSE, WY— Grand Teton National Park hosted 3,493,937 recreation visits between January and September 2021, already surpassing the park’s busiest full year on record with three months to go in 2021. Previously, 2018 had the record for most recreation visits in a year with 3,491,151 visits. Of the past nine months, six have been record setting for visitation. Some of the largest increases in recreation visits occurred during the shoulder season, including the months of March, April, and May. Summer visitation (June, July, August) also increased with July 2021 recording the busiest month for recreation visits in Grand Teton’s history. The park has also seen increases in trail use. The park accidentally undercounted recreation-visit numbers from one entrance station. With this adjustment, the park hosted  882,078  (instead of  872,695 previously reported ) recreation visits in September 2021. Adams, 307.739.3431 MOOSE, WY— Grand Teton National Park statistics show that August 2021 had the fourth highest number of recreation visits for the month of August. The park hosted an estimated 696,564 recreation visits in August 2021. This is a less than 1% decrease from August 2019 (702,022 recreation visits) and a less than 2% decrease from August 2020 (710,198 recreation visits). Camping in the park increased 13.2% in August 2021 compared to August 2019, while backcountry camping decreased 1.77%. Trail use in the park increased 20.5% in August 2021, compared to August 2019, on trails that use is counted. This is a 4.5% increase from August 2020 (881,829 recreational visits) and a 12% increase from August 2019 (820,006 recreation visits). Previously, the busiest August on record was in 2017 , the year of the solar eclipse (916,166 recreation visits).
